Dahon handlepost hinge

Hi all,
The weakest area of any Dahon, and am sure someone has an answer. With time the hinge gets so weak that I have to adjust it almost daily by giving that hexagonal bit half a turn. Appreciate if anyone got ideas on how to fix it (apart from "get a brommie").
It appears as if some parts are made of tin rather than aluminium or hardened steel. I suspect that it is the assymetric loop that actually stretches, not the threaded bit. Added some sewing thread to the threaded bit, but not hugely helpful.
Once again, any tips would be appreciated.
Thanks.

What model Dahon have you got? And what makes you say the hinge needs adjusting?
I have Dahon Matrix frame from around 5 years ago which I mainly use for commuting. I fold and unfold every working day.
The main hinge for me started creaking very loudly whenever I got out of the saddle to ride up ramps / hill etc.
I found the hinge in my case was good, and that all it needed was some grease in the hinge to stop it creaking.
Hope this helps.shame the rider doesn't match the bike...0
