I've got a 2008 XT rear derailleur fitted to my XC bike and want to change the jockey wheels as there practically disks. However it appears Shimano no longer make XT jockey wheels? Is this correct? If so, is there an alternative jockey wheel that can be fitted?

I replaced my XT jockey wheels recently with the plain non sealed bearing Deore wheels got them from chain reaction for about £5. They work just fine so far, I think any Shimano jockey wheels will fit as long as they have same number of teeth.

  • I like your style, cheap and effective. I'll see if I can source a Deore set and give them a go.

    Many thanks.

Get some KCNC ones. They are sealed bearings or ceramic and come in spangley colours. Will set you back over £30 though.

but but but, They look the nuts and make you So much faster!!!! :D

bbb do some half decent ones for a tenner, or std shimano ones as said will be fine, the XT iirc have a ceramic bearing inside them which makes them a little pricier, but supposed to be smoother rolling!! never noticed the difference personally! but my kcnc ones have lasted 3 seasons of muddyness and abuse and still spin forever and look Great!!! 8)

like OP, my XT jockey wheels are looking a bit worn out and can't seem to find shimano replacements. Sounds like KCNC, BBB or TACX might be worth a go. My question is if they cost twice as much do they last twice as long? any recommendations? cheers.

    Anyone tried the "3992-18615"s

BTW IIRC my rear mech is a Deore XT M772 (long cage) - guess it probably doesn't make much difference ;-)

Stuck some Tacx on a while back and they seem excellent, still spinning freely after some horrendous conditions.

No probs with BBB Rollerboys. Seem to wear well and come with little inserts to fit pretty much any mech.
