Got a pair of DX's for use with my flat pedals, but always had spds in mind, as ride clipless on the road but just hadn't got around to trying it on the MTB.

Question is; if I cut out the part of the sole to fit the cleats, will I ever be able to refit it? I'd rather not have to buy another pair of shoes, as I like the protection and fit of the DXs, so was hoping I can just take the cleats off and cover the hole up again if I feel like going back to flats.

Anyone got any experience of doing this? Is it an irreversible change once you put the cleats on the shoe?
