I did my first ever TT tonight, and quite simply loved it 8)

We have a club at work and went out with them, and I am quite simply hooked.

I guess the good bits for me are that I did a 29:47; especially coming off the back of only having one 35 mile ride on Suday after 2 weeks off due to a cold and travelling with work.

Its my birthday in August, so I'll do a few more, but I can already see myself telling the family that contributions to a new bike won't go amiss 8)

If you enjoyed it then you weren't trying hard enough!

Did my first one a few weeks back, and one a week with my club since, and its brilliant, really brings a competitive edge to your riding and makes it much more interesting :D

Doing another tonight, and my first 2up next week, and a 4 up in few weeks. Its a bit addictive!! :D

Nonsense. If I'm on form on a float night, I'm loving it!

Don't you enjoy it? Maybe you should give up then as you're not a pro cyclist, how fun is that, doing your work to earn a living, then your doing tt's that you don't enjoy.

I think "enjoy" is a term open to interpritation.

I certainly don't "enjoy" the pain and effort I put on during a TT, however, I do "enjoy" the sense of achievement and buzz you get after doing a good TT, and am immediately ready for the next one.

Retrospective enjoyment is what most people probably get. Not fun at the time, but you feel great afterwards.

    +2
And I like the TT crowd, most are very friendly, helpful and not bothered who turn up as long as they have a go.

And, being your first TT, you've already achieved a new Personal Best!

I've never done a TT - you may have inspired me to try one.

are TT's normally done over 10 miles?

what is a 2 up and 4 up?

You may have guessed that I'm not a member of a club or ever done a TT!

TT distances are generally 10,25,50,100, 12hr and 24hr, although there are some events that have odd distances.

2up and 4up relate to events where you ride in draft formation, 2up 2 people, 4 up 4 people (as drafting isn't legal on solo events)

thanks for that danowat so anything that says "up" in the format is the size of the "team". Do they normally have a lead rider then who they try to protect for a big push at the end?

We did a club lottery 2-up, and I drew a slower ride, so I lead for the whole 10 miles, but if there are 2 evenly matched riders, they take it in turns to maintain the highest speed over the distance.

and then do you get a team time awarded to you for the first person over the line r do you combine both riders time?

    Exactly

Where in London are you? Even though are club is with work, anyone can join. Most of the TTs are in the Brentwood/Chelmsford area. They also let people come and try.

Think of a small car maker with a blue oval and then type cycling club into Google

I work in London but live down in Surrey. We have a very active cycling club in our town - I should gird my loins (oooh errr!) and go out for a ride with them. Thanks for the invite though and good luck for the future.
