105 Question - 5600 / 5700 Compatibility

I have a full 105 (5600) groupset.
I like the routed cables of the new 5700 shifters.
Evans cycles has told me confidently and separately on two separate occasions that they are fully compatible (and they'd fit them, for a small fee).
The internet has little info that I can find, but some historical threads on other sites suggest that they are & aren't compatible in equal measure.
Can anyone state, with authority, if new 5700 levers would be compatible with my full 5600 groupset?
Cheers.

Shimano state they will work but shifting will not be "A" grade. If my memory serves me correctly its the front mech that differs slightly in the amount of pull it uses on the cable.0
