I did a Helvellyn route not too long ago which started from Glenridding car park, follow the lake road north then turn left for the road up to Dockray. Turn left in Dockray then follow that until a fence, then straight on onto the Old Coach Road. When you cross the little stream, turn left on the bridleway and that leads up to the first peak of the day with a little square rock shelter http://maps.google.co.uk/?ll=54.57473,- ... 3&t=h&z=18. If you follow the path over the top of that peak you sort of follow a ridge over about 4 or 5 peaks until you eventually reach Helvellyn (lots of Hike-a-Bike). I then followed the path back to a T-junction (that you would have passed earlier) and turned right. Follow this path to Greenside mines, down through Greenside mines and then back into Glenridding.
