Is it wrong to go for it on a charity ride?

Hi All.
On the 2nd of July i'll be joining 50 others on a jaunt from Annesley to Skegness (82 miles). although the vast majority will be taking it easy and taking 5-7 hours to complete the course, i'll be going for it taking approx 4 hours to complete the course.
should i just take it easy and enjoy the route more or should i just conform to type and be me and get my ass there asap?
are there better rides out there for me to tackle if i am a bit more competitive?
thanks all

Nothing wrong with doing a charity ride quickly as long as you don't endanger the other riders but yeah sounds more like you want to try a 4th cat road race/crit0

But the answers are all worded badly and hidden in obscure corners of the site. Some of them are in legalise so you might need to pay a lawyer to read them for you.
You're better off asking on here like I and so many other people had to do. Do a search and you'll find some answers. Then ask the questions you haven't answered on a new thread.Scottish and British...and a bit French0 -

Basically, if you want to start racing:
1. You'd be best to join a cycling club and spend some time doing group rides with them. The added benefit of this is that, rather than racing on your own, you can use team tactics either to win or help one of your fellow club members to win.
2. You need to join British cycling and get Silver or Gold Race membership
3. You need to buy a racing licence.
You can then search the race calendar for events near you. As a beginner you start as a 4th category rider. The calendar allows you to filter search results by proximity to a certain postcode, rider category, race type etc.
Oh, and, you might want to do some training too.CAPTAIN BUCKFAST'S CYCLING TIPS - GUARANTEED TO WORK! 1 OUT OF 10 RACING CYCLISTS AGREE!0 -
Isn't that route as flat as a pancake? I'd expect some people will be completing it closer to 2 hours than 4, let alone 5 or 7!0

82 miles in 2 hours? :?0

I did a charity ride recently with the intention of being a good boy and just enjoying the scenery. That lasted until the first clear bit of road :twisted:http://www.strathspey.co.uk - Quality Binoculars at a Sensible Price.
