Getting out of Paris

So I'm thinking of riding from Paris to Heidelberg (in Western Germany) in early August. Eurostar to Paris, back either via TGV/Eurostar or flying from Frankfurt.

But my big question is this - how best to get out of Paris itself? Is it dangerous/unpleasant to ride through the Parisian suburbs? Am I better jumping on a train to the outskirts and setting off from there?

Have always driven and never left Paris by bike....

Given that you would arrive at Gare du Nord and you will want to get underway and en-route, would suggest you that you take an RER or Bus out to Disneyland Paris, to get you out East and into the countryside and on your way.

From Gare du Nord - by train you will need to get an RER to Chatelet - change at Chatelet onto RER line A and out to Disneyland / Marne la Vallee.
