Is this the sort of thing you are after?

They are esentially a straight swap.
You can find much cheaper ones than the example i posted, It was just the first one i found.

    Thats exctly it!

How would i run them in? would i need to drill holes in my handlebars?

wondering if it might be worth trying to find some fitted to bars already?

    Thanks

They just clamp on (when you get a set it will be obvious how). You can see the clamp in picture 4.
The brake cable will either come out of the top of the hood in which case no probs or (as in the case of the brakes i linked to) they will come out of the back in which case just run them along the handle bar (along the front is the most comfortable way imo) and then put bar tape over the top.

This video and part 2 of the same thing go into a huge amount of depth about wraping bar tape and covers routing wires too.

    You mean like these?

They don't appear to be in very good nick, but shows you how they're installed - it's not difficult. Bear in mind you get bars with only front grooves (older Shimano) and front and rear grooves (Campagnolo and newer Shimano).

do you reckon they are worth a bid?

And can you fit STI shifters onto these ?

Personally I wouldn't bid on these, even for a hack bike I like stuff in decent condition. I would recommend these ..

Bargain price and top quality, you won't regret it. While grooved bars are nicer, you can still tape the cables to un-grooved bars, I did this for years. Bars are usually cheap and easy to buy off ebay anyway, and they're mostly covered with tape.

You can fit STI shifters to any bars, if you're thinking about them why do you want aero levers?

I was looking to upgrade the brakes, and aero levers seem nicer.

Ill look into getting them in the coming weeks.

    Thanks guys!
