As i'm not exactly sure what a groupset comprises (crank? brakes?), could someone please tell me if this bike has a full 105 groupset, or if some parts of it are from a different range?

Thanks in advance :)

As a general rule for road components the numbering system is; "5" = 105, "6" = Ultegra and "7" = Dura Ace

This was lifted from another site so i stand to be corrected, i would add that a 'full groupset' would include hubs and this bike has Fulcrums so......

Thanks for the reply, but to be honest i'm still a nit confused. Is the Cube a full 105 groupset? If not, which bits are not and how important are they to smooth operating?

Yes it is full 105. Don't worry, any bike should come set up perfectly for very smooth running. Just make sure you know your size and that the riding position of that particular bike is best for what you want.

What riding are you planning on doing? Have you owned a road bike before? What is your budget? Are you planning on buying that online?

The brakes are previous generation 105 and the cranks aren't strictly 105 (they're described as "non-series" parts) but are at the same level within the shimano range. As above the wheels are fulcrums not shimanos so it's not 105 hubs/rims and there's no mention of what bottom bracket is installed so it's impossible to tell form that description. It also doesn't come with any pedals so I guess you could buy 105 pedals if that's what you wanted.

....and absolutely none of the deviations from a pure/complete most up-to-date 105 groupset would bother me in the slightest. All of these parts will work together perfectly well.

Thanks guys, that clears it up.

I've just bought a Carrera 2nd hand to get me started and make sure i actually enjoy cycling as much as i thought (i do), and that it doesn't aggravate a knee injury (it doesn't) before i spend £1000 on a bike.

I'm planning on commuting to work (25 miles) a couple of times a week, and pleasure riding on my days off. I was thinking of buying on line but the frame size issue is putting me off - i understand how important it is to get a frame that fits. I'm also considering a Ribble Sportive because i could go up to the workshop and try one for size, and i think they're really sexy bikes
