    I think you're best off going into your local bike shop so you can actually look and touch as well as talk about what you want and need. Even a look round Halfords and a play with a few bikes might give you some idea of what you like.

    If it's mainly road I would look at a hybrid which is a cross between a mountain bike and a road bike...
