Had a road bike for several years and now want to get off road but just light stuff as I am 50 years old!!!!!
Went to Evans today and they said for around 2k the Scott Scale 30 is the best?
They also has a Rocky Mountain with over £1000 off

I know nothing about mountain bikes so any advise about wheels and groups would be much appreciated
Thanks

Seems a bit of overkill for light rough stuff, especially as a first off road bike. You could do very well at half that - Boardman springs to mind.
But if you have loads of money....I don't do smileys.

You obviously want to get somewhere FAST! Both the Vertex and the Scale are essentially race machines. As Cooldad says there's plenty of better VFM options for more lightweight use.Trail fun - Transition Bandit
Road - Wilier Izoard Centaur/Cube Agree C62 Disc
Allround - Cotic Solaris0
