Superlight not too expensive rainjacket waterproof thing

Right: I need a lightweight, small packing but effective wettie for the bike, used for commutes but also weekend rides
No feckin' dayglo yellow, but black and red efforts super duper
I'm a total lard-a$$, so would rather not have a race snake close fitting thing
And under a ton (i.e. £100), thereby ruling out all Rapha
On your marks...

I can personally recommend the Gore Path II Pac-Lite jacket; it's ridiculously lightweight, folds up to a small size that means it sits in my rucksack waiting to be used and it's Gore quality so when it is used it performs.
The yellow is lemon yellow as oppposed to 'luminous' so isn't quite as harsh, but it's also available in red, blue and black.
EDIT: See over on the Touring board for more testimonials...0 -
I have a Montane Featherlight Velo. Packs up small, weighs next to nothing, and keeps reasonably heavy rain off. 150g. Available in near-black.

+1 but get a Lidl/Aldi one. They all look and perform much the same in their stuff sacks at the bottom of your rucksack
Did that, got a Lidl one which leaks like a sieve, nice and small but only really useful as a windproof - hopeless in the rain

IMO all "breathable" waterproofs are a total waste of time at this time of year, packable or not. If you wear cycling clothing that isnt cotton and the temperature is over about 10 celsius then mtfu and get wet. maybe a windproof gilet.15 miles each way commuter (soon to be 20)

eVent is pretty good for cycling...
Not perfect but better than most other fabrics.
I have a montane stormrider, which is still available but discontinued. Pave 3x3 looks to fit the bill

and it looks as if it is still available:

Mind you, there look to be a couple of other fabrics appearing this year that might give eVent a run for their money:
Gore tex active shell or polartec neoshell
The Neoshell looks interesting because it allows some wind through it, so should help keep it cool.
Just needs to be made in a cycling cut....0 -
Said it before and here again

They are very good indeed, I like them because you can take the sleves off and it all packs away into its own built in small bag that has an elasticated waist strap.Peds with ipods, natures little speed humps

I use an Altura 'Pocket Rocket' - packs down to the size of a fist, has its own little net bag with a drawstring thing and light enough to stash in the back pack just in case."I spent most of my money on birds, booze and fast cars: the rest of it I just squandered." [George Best]0
