I was flying down the A21 last week

A week ago now but I'm still in pain after a holiday in france (Hellfest) and self medication with Jack Daniels.

I'm heading south on the bus lane on the A21 towards Catford I'm half drafting this chap not too close trying to make good time; as I've got to drive through the night to france when I get home. Cycling along fine then BANG the inner tube blows my front wheel is all over the place and then before I know it I'm launched forward into the air superman style I hit the ground hard, both my thighs have road rash, as does my hip and now ripped shorts. My palms/wrists take a lot of the impact but my now destroyed mitts took the being skinned out of the equation. My elbow managed to pick up a 2cm round hole which looks nasty still.

The chap in front stops and asks if I'm ok (the bang was loud & thank you), I do the usual thing of no it's ok I'll just fix the puncture and ride home, just as the pain starts to set in. I see my tyre is shredded and that I'd hit a rock (1/3 brick size) on the road that I hadn't seen. The tops of my hoods are pretty cut up but still are ok, the wheel is still true so it got away lightly. Managed to get a black cab home while still in shock

The bruising on my hands and hip are still really painful, but at least I can still ride even though I was a little nervous this morning.

Ow... I've had a blowout coming onto a roundabout but no crashy crashy. I reckon it was probably as much to do with the bike being thrown off line by the wheel impact as the blowout itself.

Oh yeah, for some reason I read it as going to work

Did you have fun at the track induction? I can't remember when I saw you there, had I dislocated my shoulder before that?

I was about to ask had they filled in the crater and/or had the council sued for damages...

Sadly not in this case, if I've had hit it more directly maybe I've have caused more damage but the cheese grater principal was in effect

    Ok. Potentially stupid question here.

I lost a lot of palm skin, (not a euphemism) larking about while drunk on rugby tour. I was required to keep forcing open the healing scabby skin to prevent my hand 'clawing'. Loads worse than doing the original injury. Hope you heal well.

this... if not the scar will potentially mess it up, it can be tidied to a degree

but until the other day it's not something I'd really considered when getting my next tattoo

I was about to ask what state the road was in now, but see you came off second best.

    How's the wheel?

on initial inspection it was true and the rim looked ok. Will give it a proper inspection tomorrow when I fit a new tyre

perhaps "The Power Awesome" needs to be relocated to its new owner. Causing a tyre to explode in envy when you apply some juice is surely the only explanation?

No merely highlighting the fact I hadn't read your story properly and hadn't noticed the rock bit... was complimenting you on being overpowered but I shall now bow down and worship the rock instead.
