I have owned a Garmin Etrex for years. Used to use it for night riding on the mtb and recently figured it would do as a makeshift speedo/ride log on my new road bike. Thats where the trouble started.

I used to use Memory map but tbh its pretty memory hungry and over the top for what i want. All i want to do is get an idea of length/time i have ridden whilst riding and then get home and dump the info onto endomondo so my group of riding buddies can take the pee ;-)

I have downloaded the Garmin communicator from the endomondo link and i presume this will enable me to download the info from my gps (YES/NO). I then go to endomondo and upload it (Yes/NO).

But there are mentions elsewhere of needing software to convert the info i get of the gps into gpx type files.

Please help, i just want to plug the gps into my laptop and dump the info onto endomondo. I may have to resort to writing the info down if this doesnt work.

  • does the info off the gps not export as a gpx file then?

I'm pretty sure Endmondo takes gpx files....i upload them direct from my phone and can rip them off as gpx
  • I dont know if it does or not? If it does then it seems pretty straightforward
  • How do i turn the info on the gps into a gpx file then? Just checked, computer recognises the garmin but as its not a data storage type garming (Ie search its folders) i cant 'get into the files
  • Sorted it. Had to download another piece of free software (Easy GPS) and it allows me to save the info off the gps as a gpx file. Bobs yer uncle.
