Valve extensions or tubes with long valves???

Have some 50mm carbon rims coming on Friday....

Question is simple.....do i get valve entensions for my current inner tunes, or do i buy inner tubes with longer valves? Which is considered better/more reliable etc

also, what do people recommend?

I go with valve extenders and standard inner tubes. I use a track pump tp pump up the tube at home and i carry 2 spare 80mm long valve inner tubes and a small pump (Blackburn Carbon Airstik) with me on a ride. I find that the Blackburn Airstik does not work very well on valve extenders and i,m sure a number of forum members will tell you the same thing.
Given the difference in price between standard 42mm valve inner tubes £1.50 cheapest and the extra long 80mm valve inner tubes £6.50 cheapest using the standard tubes and valve extenders is cheaper than using long valve tubes, that,s for sure . Looking back i would much prefer to have bought a mini pump which does work very well with valve extenders and then i wouldn,t need long valve tubes at all.

i just use long valves to avoid hassle (50mm rim, 80mm conti valves).

- worth having a valve extender in your saddle pack though as most cyclists carry normal valve spares and you can always pinch another rider's tube if your long valve spare goes!

i'm looking at the 80mm conti light tubes?

are they ay good as some have stated that they puncture easily? although in my experience, if you get a flint inside the tyre, your tube is a gonner anyway!

conti race light are ok, they're not superthin like supersonics

i do get the feeling that, vs. standard conti tubes, they might be a prone to pinch cuts following the initial puncture, so one puncture turns into 2 or 3, but i've only got them on one set of wheels so this could be more to do with the rims than the tubes

i've tried extenders (mavic), but had some leaks, just seemed more reliable/simpler to use long valves, fewer points of failure

ribble's pricing was ok last time i got some, you just need to buy enough to trigger their extra online discount

I got Continental Race 28 60 mm Innertubes for my 50mm clincher wheels and they are fine. Why would you need 80mm?

Conti' 80s for me. The extenders which came with my DA 7850s caused nothing but misery, though as per previous, I've shoved one in each saddle pack just in case I encounter someone who can decipher them. :P
