heart rate monitor

im toying with the idea of buying a heart rate monitor for training purposes for an XC i will use it on and of road is it worth it??
road- Trek 1000
XC trail anthem X4
school and shops- orange P7 single speed

    Ribble Cycles do one of the best deals on HRM. Bought one from them as a present to a riding buddie, he is well impressed.

    I'll choose not put too much stake into someone's opinion who is admittingly terrible though

    i use a Garmin Forerunner 405CS with GPS function...lets you look at the data in a nice way....with routing on a map etc...
