Removing cranks (BB30)

Yesterday my BB started making an awful noise. It's definitely the BB - just turning the cranks by hand makes the loudest click you've ever heard three times per revolution.

Naturally I want to get rid of it. Trying to get the non-drive side crank off is a right pain! From what I've read, you should ignore the part with holes around it and undo the bolt inside, as this presses against the part with holes in order to remove the crank. Some sort of self extracting assembly.

I'm turning (well, trying to turn) the bolt clockwise. I'm just following the directions on the part with holes. But, is that arrow referring too the part with holes and not the bolt?

Daft bikes and their reversed threads making everything confusing.

I'm about to go into my final year studying in an engineering department, and this still has me baffled.

it is self extracting and standard thread. so anti clockwise. .

Haha, brilliant. That's it off now. Thanks. :D

Just need to try and batter the drive side out now. Rubber mallet time.

the outer bolt is lh thread because if you think about it :?: if it was threaded the same as the fixing bolt the friction would cause it to undo and be useless.
