Slipping chain

Ok, firstly my apologies for my ignorance and I will literally say that bikes for me are two wheels and a frame..... I'm not proud!!!!

Well down to business...... I have a 2009 Boardman Team Carbon and i am loving it. Well until today. I had a flat tyre on the back wheel and have dutifully repaired. Having put the wheel back on I have found that when the chain was on the middle rear rings the chain was slipping..... on the highest or lowest gears the bike is fine irrespective of the front two rings......I think the rear deriheuiller is Sram Rival and god knows what else everything else is.........

Sorry again for my ignorance but any help is greatly helpful

Cheers

Given that a bike is a frame and 2 wheels - did you put that rear wheel back in properly, centralised and locked up well? :D

I'd think it's something simple like that to be honest. If all was well before the flat, then it's likely the wheel not being put back properly and fouling your chain/cassette/dérailleur alignment.

Is the chain actually slipping round the sprockets or jumping from one to the other, if its slipping your drive train could be showing signs of wear, if its jumping between sprockets it needs a tweak on the rear mech cable adjuster, removing and replacing the rear wheel can put the shifting slightly out sometimes.

Did you rest the bike on the rear mech when repairing the puncture?

I would say more likely to be the second reason. If unsure how to adjust take to your LBS and ask them to have a quick look at it. Mine spent 2 minutes looking and adjusting and was sorted, no charge either. Watch what they do so you can do yourself next time

I would say it's a bit of slippage but more like an indecisive other half, "should I struggle and get In the other ring or shall I just make an awful grating sound".... U know the type! ;-)

And if the rear mech is the black thing that hangs off the frame with the chain going through it, then yeah this did touch the garage floor whilst my wheel was off
