I'd go for a standard jacket and fold away fully waterproof in case it rains. This gives you flexibility.

North Face are bloody expensive really for what you get.

Do you have any biking stuff that will suffice?

North face is really good, and you can often get it at proper bargaineous prices.

However, I'm with Sonic, get some really good biking stuff - then use it for everything. All my "technical" clothing (apart from walking boots) has been bought primarily with MTBing in mind, and it also works well when used for other things.

I went for a Marmot Nano jacket last year as i rely on layers to keep me warm rather than the jacket and i can roll it up and stuff it in my bag and it takes up no space at all, i find it perfect for mountain biking, but i must admit i have a commuting jacket thats hi-viz yellow that is brilliant i just look like a tw@ wearing it!

Marmot Nano - Expensive but fantastic

Altura Attack - decent price and highly recommended by mates!

  • Get him to hage to swmming, or darts - then you can watch him indoors. No coat needed.
