Feet leaving pedals

I had a go, while out yesterday evening, at re-positioning my feet as per the advice, but it did feel quite odd. I will , however, continue to try it to see how things develop.0

Technique is one thing but I can definitely say Five Tens do help stick your feet to the pedals. It's perhaps not so much that they are gripping like hell, but the grip seems to make me shift foot position and technique.0

Yeah, I did purchase some five10's when I switched too. It certainly feels odd if you've been used to spds but like everything, stick at it and hopefully it will become natural. I've been on flats since Jan and I still have to remind myself to move my feet before descending0

So let me get this right, for uphill place feet with ball of foot over the middle of the pedal. But when going down move them forward a in? Or just have the pedal under the middle of the foot at all times?0

Personally, I like to tackle even rough trails with the ball sof my feet over the axle, so I can keep pedalling for more speed, but if I'm heading for something really gnarly, or preparing for a large drop, I'll move my feet so that they're central over the pedals. It's a reflex thing by now, I don't think about it anymore.0 -
It's not skill, you just need clipless pedals.

I've MG1's on one bike and SPD's on the other two but on the flats I've always pedalled with the balls, never the arches- will need to experiment with this. By dropping the heels how much are we talking? Just a bit? A lot? Would calf exercises on a step help(raises/drops to stretch the muscles)?0
