Hi all,
Any one know what a sleeved joint is and is it a weaker option compared to a welded?

Cheers

    yep.

some makers have gone from welded to sleeved.

but it all depends on what rims you are looking at.

A Sunn S-type that's for sale over in classifieds. I had a Sunn Singletrack that I cracked at the joint. It might not have tacoed had it not cracked at the joint first so, though I'm slightly concerned about Sunn rims, the welded S-type should be stronger? (interior diameter is the same).

Roger Musson of Wheelpro who has been wheelbuilding for 20 plus years reckons there is no difference in strength between a sleeved joint and a welded one if the wheel is properly tensioned. Possibly the Sunn rim broke because it wasnt tensioned properly.

It wouldnt bother me I have mangled plenty of rims over the years but never at the joint.
