Acknowledging Other Cyclists??

I'd say that on average, 50% of cyclists wave or nod back to me, 50% don't. I've always seen it as being rude not to acknowledge someone but maybe I'm wrong. I ride mainly on the road, and I find MTBers to be far more friendly. I have been cycling since I was about 11 and I'm now 40. Only time I don't do it is if I'm riding a time trial with my head down. Thoughts please?

Amazingly, this is the first time this topic has come up. Or not.
To summarise the previous threads:
- Many people wave
- Many people don't
- Many people who wave think others should wave too
- Many people who don't wave think wavers should mind their own f*cking business0 -
to be fair - it has been four whole days since the last thread on this topic.....

Funnily enough about the only time I have acknowledged other cyclists was during a time trial!
I respond if people acknowledge me and often, but not always give a nod and a smile. I generally don't vocalise though.0 -
just a quick hand signal does the job

Maybe the person you waved at while you were out riding didn’t see you wave at them.0

Depends on who is doing the overtaking. :evil:0

I think we should all give a cheery wave to that old favourite the 'greeting cyclist thread'. Welcome back old friend, we've missed you.The dissenter is every human being at those moments of his life when he resigns
momentarily from the herd and thinks for himself.0 -

MTBers aren't friendly, just fecking desperate.0 -
Ha! Fair play. Being new to this site, and any other cycling site come to think of it, I haven't had the time to trawl through the older posts, maybe I should have done that first. Answered my question though...cyclists are just people, some people are tossers, some are not. Thanks0

You werent to know that starting a thread on wavvy topic has had blood boiling on this forum so often.... am just upset that I never get a wavvy from a triatherlump with their helmet on back to front and HRM strap on the outside of their sleeveless vest.
Try a thread with a unique flavour next time... like Sir Alan Sugar .. deserves that Pinarello or not?0 -

So are the tossers the ones who wave to you, or the ones that don't? :?Carlsberg don't make cycle clothing, but if they did it would probably still not be as good as Assos0 -
When I ride my MTB I wave cheeringly at all and sundry wishing them "have a good day my fellow". Where as on my road bike I totally ignore every one and should anyone wave I just snarl and give them the finger. When I'm on my cross bike I just get confused whether to be nasty or nice. :?Tail end Charlie

I forgot which bike I was on once. Looked down to check & by the time I looked back up, the moment had passed.0 -

No - that was about whether roadies are snobby and whether they wave to each other. This one is about whether you, as a roadie, per se, wave to anyone.
Completely different topic altogether. Chalk and cheese. Mickle muckle.0 -
If I see them - sure. Why not?0

When I first started riding I was amazed at how friendly the other cyclists I was coming across were, so naturally I give a little wave and a nod, sometimes say hello.Alun
