Hi,
I wasn't entirely sure where this should best be posted, but I thought maybe here for some reason. I am moving to Loughton shortly and wondered if anyone knew of an organised cycling club operating out of there.
I'm not a complete beginner but I've never been involved in club cycling before either. I have organised tours abroad and prefer this cycling to anything too competitive or racing. I'm 40 years old, reasonably fit and looking for a weekly ride on a Sunday morning with a few tours and sportives every so often.
I'm also just at the start of raising a family so whilst I'd like to be committed I will have other priorities that will likely mean I can't guarantee being available every week.
I have searched and found the Glade Club in Epping. They look like a fine club. Are there any members on this board and can they tell me a little more about their club? Or should I start a Loughton Cycling Club or something equally daft?
Thanks,
WBG

Hello there,
I live in Walthamstow & pass near Loughton on my little 10 mile circuit.
Think the closest clubs I've heard of are Edmonton & Lea Valley.
I'm new to road cycling (about 3 weeks now) but would like to up my pace & learn a little bit more technique. Want to raise my fitness before joining a club but let me know how it goes/if you want to meet up to watch me suffer! Welcome to Hoogerland, Population: Heroes.
Danny Hart; How does he sit down with balls that big?0 -
Similar, I do a bit of cycling and the odd sportive but would like to do more (fitting round family commitments etc). I live in Leytonstone and tend cycle around Epping and surrounds, it seems to be a popular area for cyclists judging by the numbers I see cycling round.
I think there is a group that meets at the Castle pub in Woodford on Sunday? mornings but not sure what club this is or if its just a group that ride together.Allez

i'm pretty sure this group is an offshoot of the eagle cc once based in wanstead and now based out towards bishops stortford. a friend of mine rides for them out there and suggested i join them. once i move out to loughton though i would prefer to get out to the country roads as quickly as possible and avoid coming back into woodford/walthamstow etc., at all.
i would recommend the eagle cc and the woodford meet to anyone interested though. they all seemed like very good, welcoming people.
if anyone is interested in a few semi organised rides out loughton way, kicking off early doors on a sunday though, i'd be happy to be involved. nothing too hectic, just a good steady pace and a nosed around the quieter roads towards epping, ongar etc..0 -
Being a local I can give you the names of some very good cycling clubs in the area,
Hainault Roads Club
Easterly Road Club
Victoria Cycling Club
Lea valley Cycling Club
For what you are looking for I'd go and take a look at Hainault RC, www.hainault-rc.org.uk
Also have a look at easterncounties.org they have a longer list of clubs in the south east.
I'm not far from you and would be able to join you on a Sunday.0 -
Hello everybody. I've lived in Buckhurst Hill for the last three years, so may have seen a few of you out and about on occassion. I commute into Dalston 3 or 4 times a week. Don't get much opportunity to go out much at the weekends though.
I also don't know much about any of the local cycling clubs, but may think about joining one in the near future (the wife has mentioned it, so I may be able to get away with it ;-) ). Would need to fit this in around my family commitments too though so I couldn't guarantee being able to go out every single week.0 -
Don't forget Redbridge CC, used to be with them, great blokes, they cycle Epping - North Weald etc. I used to live in The Lavers - Matching area, some good routes in that area.0

Im Lea Valley CC,
More than welcome to pop down to Hog Hill on a Tuesday for our 10 series and have a chat or even have a go.
We are quite an active club with a good mix of riders at the moment. Dont tend to focus on just one thing in particular and welcome all riders of all abilities. Our club nights are actually at Hog Hill on Tuesdays after, so by all means pop along if you fancy it.
Club rides go from Walthamstow Town Hall on Sundays and go to Epping (Green Tea Hut) being the first stop, some riders go straight there which would probably be best in your case.
Ive got family commitments aswell, not obliged to do anything go out as much as you want or as little entirely up to you.
also East London Velo aswell very active on the racing and TT scene with a very good level of riders there.0 -
I have just moved to Loughton too and looking to join a club. Having gone on the British Cycling website there seem to be a few - are there any members of Crest CC on here as they appear to be the most local and have a good website.0

Crest is a great club got a fantastic coach in Mike Beasant0

Me and 2 mates meet up most weeks at the Wake Arms roundabout for around 7am. We tend to ride out nice and easy at 16s for around 3 hours. We'd welcome more though.Still breathing.....0
