    thought so
  • To be honest, the frame on the Trek is as good as any you'd get on a top end bike! You'd probably not feel any difference in the flex etc unless you were looking for it!

If I were you and had that bike, and came into £5k in money....I'd probably upgrade the groupset - 105 is a very good entry level, but you can't beat the Dura-Ace set-up.....possibly even the Di2. I'd also look at getting the wheels upgraded....there's some fantastic wheels out there that can easily make a difference and CAN make you go faster.

Doing both and then selling off the 105 groupset and old wheels and i reckon you could get away with spending £2k at the most.....that gives you £3k to enjoy :o)

    Just my opinion of course!

What does the fact you're a beginner have to do with what bike you can afford to buy? I class myself as a beginner still and I'm out there on a £4k plus bike.
I ride a bike. Doesn't make me green or a tree hugger. I drive a car too.

lol BigBee, what a pointless post.

To the OP, you're paying alot for a special paintjob, it won't make you faster, but if you like it more go for it!

they can if they save like crazy for years ? i went from a dawes giro 300 to the trek 4.5 and while there is a differance its not massive ! to a £5000 paint job it would be even less noticable ?

if you can afford nice stuff, go for it

going faster is down to you rather than the bike

instead of getting a factory-built with a paint job, why not go for a full custom made to measure, decide on a theme, select material, you could go for super-light, or just pure bling
my bike - faster than god's and twice as shiny

I've not heard good reports on the project one sprays. You could get a local guy to do a better job.
