Yeah yeah another one of those comparison threads, just want to hear people's opinions or better yet experiences with the bikes above.

I'm basically after an as close as possible to a do it everything bike (yes I know there's no such thing) as I like to ride xc race, trail centres and a bit of downhill (not extreme jumps etc) so I'm after the best compromise as I've already got a commuting Rockhopper and I've got no space or money for another 2 bikes.

I don't like heavy bikes, my 100mm Cube has done well, but looking for something with a bit more travel.

I can get the Genius 10 2010 for £3000,

the Cube AMS 130 SL is about £2700
http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=57257

and the Zesty 514 is about £2800 (with 714 a fair bit more, unless I went 2nd hand or 2010)
http://www.evanscycles.com/products/lapierre/zesty-514-2011-mountain-bike-ec024839

For the money the Cube has the best value components, but without having ridden any of these except for the 514 I don't know how it will ride until I get to test ride one, which is quite difficult living in London. The nearest Cube is 1.5 hours drive away!

Heard good things about the Scott, apart from one review which found it a bit sketchy and a loose front end (was maybe just the Nobby Nics).

Did like the Zesty 514 when I tried it, felt very solid and handled well, not sure about the components and weight in the long run thought.

To add to the dilemma hearing good things about the new Yeti SB-66 (bit more of a heavy hitter but with a unique frame design) coming out soon....

Well any positive feedback is welcome, cheers.

Yeah I will be trying them all out before I part with my money, but the Cube is weeks away from being in stock near me and it can't hurt to hear about other peoples experiences on them as well, how they performed, whether they broke, if there's any other bike maybe I should consider as well...

I rode a Genius 10 and thought it was a big bag of poo! Everyone else I know who's ridden one has said the same.

    Maybe we're wierd, I don't know.

Why was that? I've heard it takes a bit of time getting the rear suspension pressure set just right??

Maybe that was the problem. But it was set up by the Scott guys at a demo day.

It felt slow, heavy, the suspension seemed to sink right through the travel on big hits, but it was harsh over small, chattery bumps and the shock made an annoying tweeting noise everytime it moved.

    Other than that....

Cubes apparently have fairly dodgy suspension set ups. Apparently the shudder over the small stuff and blow through all the travel on big hits.
The lapierre won the MBUK bike test recently.
The genius has adjustable travel (possibly another thing to go wrong).
The yeti looks incredible but isn't out yet and you don't want to be buying a new bike and wearing it all in in the wet and cold if it comes out too late this year but I think it is july so its worth a look.
Also 2010 and 2011 models will probably be almost identical

Out if the bikes there I would test ride the lapierre(s) and the Yeti if you can wait.

Others to consider are the trek remedy 8/9,saracen ariel, orange five.

The ariel and five are more playbikes than the other though.

Spoke to my LBS about the Yeti, looks like the first ones will be in next month, though seems like they are pre-sold apart from a demo model. I'm going to bag a test ride as soon as I can, partly out of interest and if it is the best thing since sliced bread then I might consider taking a hammer to the piggy bank...

I know it's old thread, but I need one information.

Is it possible to install tapered steerer forks (1 1/8 to 1 1/2) on Scott Genius 10 (2010) frame?
Need this information as soon as possible, because I have chance to buy one very cheap. Thanks!
