Gear Cable Outer Ends?

Afternoon.
This may sound like a right noob question but where do the rubber needle type things that come with Shimano's gear cable sets go? The last few bikes i've had have had full outer cables so didn't have any of these.

over the long thin plastic bits. placed at ends like last front mech stop. the upper seat stay stop. normally shown in the shimano fitting guide/manual."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."
