Thought id share this little nugget as the vid has really helped keep my wonky knees happier. I do the following for 4-5 mins to warm up before each ride and it works well (some beautiful piano music too :) ). If you currently have soar knees try it now. It will help straight away.

Anyone have any simular clips or genral advice on this topic post it up. Could save a lot of future 'my knee hurts' threads..

thanks for sharing - although i'm not 100% convinced that pre-exercise massage is the key to saving knees!

I had my knees operated on in 2008 - nothing major, just cartiledge repair (removal!) in both - left knee more serious done in june and right knee in october. the surgeon who performed both ops (a genius in my book!) told me a fair bit about keeping them in shape - about exercise and moderate strength training as well as flexibility and range of motion exercises.

cycling was good - fixed gear was not - not because of the rate of spinning but rather that the knee should always be controllled by the hip - not from the foot (as in the case of the reverse loading felt on fixed gear).

i reaslie there is A LOT of mixed opinion on knee care - as in all training and medical through trains - but there are a lot of us who suffer and a thread like this can only help!

Yeah, if people have their bikes set up wrong etc etc its not going to stop problems, but for me I used to have a dull ache in both knees before I warmed my legs up fully and the excerices really helped with that. Also after a long ride when you've put lots of strain on them for hrs its cool.

    i agree - good stuff.

I also find that i end up wearing 3/4 shorts a lot more of the year than some - i prefer the warm-feeling / insulation in the knees for the first few miles

Very interesting - I got used to riding massive gears as a kid, but now spin excessively. I still have sore knees, but them them scoff. I will have the last laugh... 8)

    Well done mate.

Its not streching though, its massaging the muscles.
