Selling Mark Cavendish's 2009 Tour de France Scott Addict

Hello,
I'm looking to sell a bike I own and as I'm more of a cycling enthusiast than an expert I was told that this forum would be a really good place to get some advice, and I'm hoping someone might be able to help me.
I have Mark Cavendish's Scott Addict which he rode in the 2009 Tour de France, signed on the seat with his name and the Union Jack on the seat pole, and although I love the bike (and showing it off) and would really like to keep it, I'm a little short of cash and space at the moment so I've decided I should sell it.
I was hoping someone on here might be able to help with some advice on the best place/site/way to sell it as I'd prefer it went to someone who appreciates the bike as much as I do and I think it would be great if a fan of Cav was to take it off me rather than someone who is just after a good second-hand bike.
The bike is in exactly the same condition as when I got it (the same as when he stepped off it I suppose) and I haven't ridden it apart from up and down the street just to see what it's like (I didn't want to damage it, especially the signature on the seat, or have it stolen, and because it's too small for me as my regular road bike I thought it would be best just to keep it in my room).
I've attached some pictures which I just took.
If anyone knows the best way to sell it or anyone who would want to buy it I would be very grateful for the advice. Also, I'm not sure how much something like this would usually sell for so if anyone has any advice or suggestions on that as well please do let me know. And of course offers are also welcome.
Thanks in advance for any help.

How much are you wanting for it?0

Well even as a 'normal' second hand bike with a top end frame, full dura ace chainset, dura ace wheels and conti tubs, it's gotta be worth a few thousand.
Most top end bikes seem to be advertised between 40 and 60% of original price based on age and condition.
However given its history, I would guess that a fan of collector would probably pay more than that. Maybe an auction of sporting memorabilia would be the best place? Contact an auction house and they may give you a rough estimate.
Unfortuntely it's too small for me to ride!0 -
FYI a new Scott Addict RC is about £6000.
IIRC the conti pro limited competion tubs are not available for sale to the general public, but would probaly be over £100 a piece if they were.
The wheels on Cav's/your bike are more expensive than the stock items you get for £6k0 -
Cool bike and I agree with the idea of finding a specialist sporting memorabilia auction.
Just out of interest, how on earth did you get hold of such a thing?0 -
So £150 is out of the question?0
-
What's the story behind it, how did you get hold of it?0

eBay.0

As folk have alreeady asked about how you got hold of it, I imagine the provenance will be important to some to prove that you didn't just have a replica and got Cav to sign the saddle etc.
As suggested, eBay....you might get a few people going bidding mad as they tend to do on eBay.0 -
Ebay in America0

well since you are an enthusiast rather than an expert I can tell you that the most sort after bike is a 2005 Carrera from Halfords( saddle signed by Max Cavendish). So if you want to swap PM me.The dissenter is every human being at those moments of his life when he resigns
momentarily from the herd and thinks for himself.0 -
I thought Mark Cavendish rode with one of those chunky, "sprinters" stems? Made by PRO?Ben

I guess if you were being altruistic and found out how much it was worth, you could always ask the national cycle museum if they wanted to buy it from you:

Garmin were selling their team bikes off last year - I think you could buy them for about £3,000 upwards depending on the kit. Of course your bike has a little more "history"...http://www.georgesfoundation.org

How much did you pay for it?0

I don't want to pee on the OP's chips but I've just remembered that Cav rode with a special paint job in 2009, his bike was painted like a WWII aircraft.
So whilst this might have been one of Cav's bike, it probably isn't the one that crossed the line in Paris0 -
I thought all of Cav's bikes had the older 7800 chainset as it's stiffer than the new 7900 ones.0

If i owned this bike and somebody told me that, i think i would cry.
Still Cavs bike though 8)0 -
Yeah like just a spare and even then not sure you could guarantee it was at the TdF but nice bike anyway and no clue what it's worth, probably less than you're hoping though0

Hi all,
Thanks for the feedback and advice. I had considered eBay of course but I hadn't seen many collectable items on there so thought there might be a more suitable alternative.
I managed to win the bike in a competition associated with HTC Columbia so I guess I'm only passing on the information as it was given to me. I had wondered whether I'd need to get an official certification or similar before someone would purchase it.
And I see what you mean about the WWII style frame, but I guess I'd always assumed he'd used more than one bike across the whole Tour and I never knew whether I'd be able to determine on which days he used which bike. Is there a limit to how many bikes each rider can use during the whole race (and perhaps how many different wheels as well)?
Looking at some of the shots in this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RWd795sZ8E4, it doesn't look like he was on the WWII style frame all the time (although admittedly it's a little hard to make things out very clearly in that video).
I guess a little bit more research on my part wouldn't hurt.
And a 2005 Carrera from Halfords... though I'm only an enthusiast even I know they are priceless. You'd be mad to swap!0 -
The bike looks more like the Addict that he was using at in early 2009

Looking at the vid, the 'standard' team paint job in the TdF doesn't have a black head tube either, so I'm not even sure if the bike you had ever saw the tour, even as a spare bike.
I imagine it was one of the many bikes he used over the season, like Langer Dan says, it does look like the one in cyclingnews. I reckon someone will pay a premium for the fact it was Cav's bike but I reckon your looking closer to the 60% of original value unless you get multiple fan boys bidding on it.
See if you can get a written confirmation from HighRoad that it was Cav's bike, stick it on ebay with a reserve of £4000 and then see if there is any interest.
If not, there's a saddle that will definitely fetch a decent price above its £200 RRP with the fan boys on e-bay.
If you do go down the e-bay route, do some advertising in forums to stir up some interest.0 -
Be wary of ebay bids from a user called Schweiz.......
Just kidding =P0 -
Sorry if i'm pointing out the obvious but Cav rides Arione not Aliante.0

I know you'll have seen this, but this might add some provenance?

If you won it in a competition, then I suspect it was a spare bike that may or may not have actually been ridden by Cavendish. Certainly it's the correct frame, etc - but some of the parts do not match what he normally would ride. (Plus it looks like most of them were replaced with new parts so you'd have a new bike when you got it).
It might be hard to sell it as "Cav's bike" but it 's still a decent bike worth some good money.0 -

So it would appear from some photos however, Fizik reckon he was on an Aliante and is now on an AntaresOne guy who has transformed from Bull [Aliante] to Chameleon, now riding the Antares, and who will be part of the 2011 fi’zi:k advertising campaign is Cavendish.
