Guys,

Can anyone give me any recommendations of what to check as when I go to change down a couple of gears it seems to shift initially, and then it will jump back down again, so it iseffectively only changing down one gear.

Bike is only about 3 weeks old, so everythingis brand new. Tried tightening the rear nut but to no avail.

Any suggestions?
Cheers
FJ

If going from bigger sprocket to smaller one, then it's due to cable drag - the shift lever 'pulls' the cable and mech 'up' toward the bigger sprockets and you're relying on the spring in the rear mech to go the other way. As it's a new bike, perhaps take it back to your LBS for them to sort out as it might also be down to poor cable installation i.e. outers not cut cleanly / square or dirty / kinked inner cables

I had quite a few problems sorting out my Dads bike that he'd built and the major issue with the RD working correctly was making sure the cable was clamped correctly at the RD....i think it ran over the top side of the clamping bolt rather than underneath as it should, changed this and it was spot on.

    Sorry,

Mis-use of terminology; it is going from the smaller to the bigger sprockets.

It used to work when I first started riding, and it has only been the last couple of rides where this has happended, so I'm hoping it should be something fairly simple to adjust.
