Tiagra Shifting Problems

finally had my knee surgery last week, been almost a year off the bike, so decided to have a quick spin on the rollers today, just a 20minute spin (which actually made my knee feel much better)

gave the bike the usual check over, but didnt actually notice till i was on the rollers that the shifting is awful

Its full Tiagra on a CAAD9 was perfectly smooth last time I rode, this time was a little choppy, i struggled to shift from the big ring to small ring on the cranks, there was a noticeable clunk and the shifter small arm on the STI went from resistance to soft. shifting back to the big ring is fine just problems shifting down. Similar issue on the rear, its almost silent running there is just a loud clunk when shifting through the cassette in either direction...

any help is much appreciated as I am hoping to do build up the spin sessions each day then hopefully get back out on the road next week :D

Sounds like you need to spray your pivots with some wd40.

If that doesn't fix it, new cables should sort it, or squirt some wd40 down the outers to clean them up a bit.

I'd lube it up, then fine-tune using the barrel adjusters. Upon failing that, I'd replace the cables.

lubed it up and its eased a little, I think I got to clean it up fully and relube everything.

The grease on the chain was really dark and filthy, which I think could be part of the problem...
