I'm interested in turning an XT triple chainset into a double. If you're running a double I'd be interested to hear how you've set yourself up, whether you're happy or not, and whether you'd do anything different if you were to start again.

I switched to an SLX double and bash earlier this year.
It runs a 36 tooth larger ring instead of the usual 32 on a triple.
    Running a 9sp cassette(unsure about ratio).
My shifter were changed to double (internally not new shifters)

I find its far better when riding off road as there is no shin bashing on the chainring or bashing in logs.
It also means that cassette wear is more even as a wider range on the rear cassette is used over a 32/44.

The only issue is its not as fast on road or onlong steady, straight decents as I am missing the big chainring but overall it's worth doing.

are you going to change the rings or the crankset?

sizes of the rings depend on you and your riding and often the bike itself.

as this is the Tech section I guess it is more of a ow to do question but.....

I was looking to change the rings, dropping the larger ring, increasing the spread between granny and middle, using something like a 11-36 cassette.

    It's a 10s transmission, BTW.
