Depends on the frame really.
The 120mm fork sould be fine but the 140 will feel weird and change the bike geometry.
You can find out how it would feel to have the bike like this by sticking planks of wood under the front wheel and seeing how it feels. But personally I would go for 120mm0 -
Errrrr
And the bike is?
140 will most likely be way too much of a change.I don't do smileys.

Hmm, I'm thinking of doing a similar thing myself steel42. I've got some stock suntour xcr on a scott aspect 45, and with some RockShox Toras 130mm http://www.jejamescycles.co.uk/rockshox-tora-302-solo-air-130mm-lockout-id63485.html#info half price, it seems a good a time as any to upgrade.
Please tell me, wise peoples of bikeradar, if there'd be a problem here. (I'm assuming steerer diameter is pretty standard as there's only one size offered.)0 -
You should check with Scott the max travel the recommend for the frame.
And there are a number of of different steerer/headset sizes, including tapered.
1 1/8 is the most common.
That's a very good price though.I don't do smileys.

What frame? If it is something like a gt avalanche you might get away with having 140mm travel. However, if its something like a scott scale or a boardman ht, I would definately say 120mm MAX. Not only will it wreck the handling, you risk damaging the headtube and yourself.0
