Ooops

fox_fork_oil_damper_sheared_medium.jpg

Decided to dive in and have a go at servicing my Fox Float RL 32 forks, stripped, cleaned, seals and sponges replaced. I was surprised at how easy it all was and how well it was going. All I had left to do was screw on the damper shaft bottom nut and add some oil and I was done.

Unfortunately the bolt's sheared off! The crush washer hadn't even crushed yet so word of warning to anyone else attempting this - it's delicate!

Going to call Mojo in the morning but anyone know how contained a part I can replace or am I looking to replace the entire damper assembly (which sounds expensive :()?

called Mojo and they're sending me out a new base valve £29 + p&p so nothing too disastrous. Of course it is £30 could have been better spent on more fun things and another couple of days off the bike so will definitely be more careful in the future!

that doesn't look likea reglar bolt to me - is it a hollow bolt? And looks like some alloy part of the damper has sheared off.

how hard were you doing it up?

anyways, £ 30 is not the end of the world, cheaper than replacement forks.

    it's a hollow alloy bolt.

Wasn't applying much pressure at all, after it sheared I simply unscrewed the nut by hand. I suspect it was more sideways pressure (from not concentrating enough doing it up) than over-tightening. I hadn't got anywhere near as tight as the other leg which was fine.
