Howdy all,

Just bought me some new fox forks with a 15mm axle and cant wait to get them... But just after some brief advice...

A lot of FSA headsets have a split crown race for ease, As i havent stripped my cube down does anyone know if the standard FSA it came with has a split race?

As far as I know it uses a normal crown race.

Or at least the LTD range from Cube does and the 2010 AMS 125 does, I've not swapped forks on an AMS 100 yet so not 100% sure but highly likely it's a regular crown race

From experience I would seriously think about changing the headset as my FSA No.10 was completly knackered after 10 months use, it had rusted and had scored the crown race.

I replaced it for £26.99 with a sealed bearing one from superstar components. Did not need a puller to remove the crown race just used a wedge shaped object and knocked it up from both sides.

Well I'm just passing on my experience as the headsets appear to be common across the range, as the op did not say have old his bike is and he is getting replacement forks it might be a good idea to consider, granted you can buy the caged bearings for a couple of quid each but if the cup or crown race is scored then the replacements may not last to long.

  • Well surely it would still be a good idea to upgrade to sealed bearings anyway? Plus if your going to have new forks then why not have a nice new set of sealed bearings that will last longer?

Dont think my old 09 AMS had a split one. the plastic bung that keeps everything in place was split but not the bearing
