Just a single pivot with the loci in a generally accepted position and 100mm travel. And with horrible welds. It's alright looking, but for me the Lapierre X-Control is the best looking short travel suss on the market.

Morewood being a South African manufacturer wouldn't be hailed for innovation
I believe it's the African approach of simplicity plus functionality and reliability
Single pivots can work well, as much as I hate to say it... the Orange 5 for example
As "terrible" as you perceive the welds to be, remember it's not made in Taiwan by robots

The Morewood Mbuzi (Goat) got a very good review a few years back.

Agree with all the above. Filled welds or double pass is much prettier though

You must be proud that your 5 year old can weld.

Mate has one (although the shop he owns sells them so he pretty much has one of everything) - it's a very nice riding bike...seems comfy climbing and descending and pedals well.

I think it looks nice as well.

www.flyingfoxbikes.com will do you a good price on one if you are wanting to buy...(biased plug obviously!)

Are you certain of that? Because there's a very very good chance that it's made by either Merida or Giant.

The welds do look messy though, just inconsistend and clumpy.

Anyone know what that bolt is for behind the BB shell? Is it for splitting the chainstay to fit an unbroken length of chain or something?

Good spot... no idea what it could be though it looks like the rivets on denim trousers... maybe the welds are actually overlapping rivets?

its a great bike... welds are sloppy though...

it is handmade in Pietermaritzburg (G. Minnaars home town, 40 mins from Durban) (as are all morewoods) so the finish might not be perfect* but the quality is top!

*its those flipping slack bok's* that are to blame, too busy surfing and drinking Castle... They have a kiff life, hey... ;)

*only messing, I have safa family and love them to bits... great country, great people.

So bearing that in mind, why is this a great bike with top quality ?

Well designed and well built out of top materials.

Even if the weld looks a little rough, it can be just as strong as any, much prettyer, weld.

It would be near the top of my list for a lightweight all day xc/marathon bike.

As per Joshtp, they are hand made in 'Martizbug, Natal, South Africa. It wasn't a guess Yeehaa, it was a known fact.
I know quite a few Morewood owners in SA, they're quite loyal to the brand there, even though the pricing puts it on par with a better known brand

    Fair enough.
    Still messy welds though.

they seem to make a feature of the welds with the paint/decals stopping instead of covering it!

it was reviewed by BR last year

and yet BR rave about it over and over in that review....

if I had the cash for another bike, and was after a light 100mm marathon bike... i'd buy it.
