Converting headset from tapered to straight

I'm thinking about changing the rs lyriks to a set of fox talas due to reliability issues. Was thinking of selling the lyriks on eBay and buying a used set of fox from eBay to reduce cost. Unfortunately there doesn't appear to be many tapered steerer fox forks on eBay (I've got a trek remedy) so was thinking about converting to straight headset. Particularly as mine is starting to show signs of wear anyway.
How do I go about doing this? Is it just a new set of bearings or more complicated? Also will I notice any detrimental affect on the bikes performance?

there is an Edit button. Try it some time.

depends on the headset but I would get a reducer lower cup assy and fit that.

Hope do a spacer part number HS136 which is an over sized crown race. It fits on to a 1 1/8th steerer tube like normal but the external size is correct for a 1 1/2 bearing. Not sure if it works on all makes of headset. See http://shop.18bikes.co.uk/products.php? ... 0s394p1389
