Dont know if the two are connected but.

Replaced chain with new SRAM 991.

All ok except that the rear mech pulls forward when under pressure?

I have read somewhere that the chain may need a full lube (i will try that this eve).

XT cassette is not very old and does not look worn.

Any ideas?

Could be chain suck ie the chainring not releasing the chain properly and pulling the mech forward.

Can happen with new chains on worn parts.
  • Thanks for that.

Although the cassette has not had a huge amount of hours (Deore XT)

How can you tell if its worn? The teeth do not look like shark fins etc

Not the cassette, the chainrings. You need to try and catch it when it is happening and look down! Does the chain ride on with the rings?
  • Ok, will have a look and get a mate to have a look to try and see.

I dont think so because i tried to look my self and there seems to be no noticeable cause.

    B Tension?
Too wide a chain (7 speed on a 9 speed system)
Stuck Jockey Wheel or chain not correctly fed through Jockey wheels
    Kink in new chain

  • No, it was a 991 and has been replaced by a 991.

I will have time to give it a good going over tonight so will report back :)
  • Found middle ring to have very slight burring on the teeth.

Only a few and they looked like the metal had "crushed" a little.

replaced the ring and all is smooth.

    Thanks for replies
