Interested to find people's opinion on the most compliant hardtail frame they've found. Love riding hardtails but smashed my coccyx pretty bad a few years ago so want a softer feel if poss, have a full susser as well so only experience on hardtails if poss. Don't mind a custom build if it's right- and not fussed about material, for trail and leisure xc, cheers

    Retro steel Kona!
I find my 1994 Lava Dome perfect, nice and soft.

Probably not the answer you wanted though but take the bump :D
  • Same as above.

My old 95 Cinder Cone had huge flex in the rear triangle, if i pulled the rear V-brakes hard you could easily see the tubing flexing outward.

Steel bikes with thin guage round profile tubing flex a lot

Any retro Steel based frame my 1996 M-Trax Ti 4000 sl is mint, steel rear stay and titanium everything else keeps it light and not too harsh!!!

If your after a newer frame try a Pace RC 104

Was thinking of a new frame but a retro sounds fun! Are all the new steel frames really stiff in comparison? Pace looks a nice price of kit though.....

Genesis do some reasonable priced skinny steel framed modern bikes, but don't have any experience su couldn't comment objectively. May be worth a look if u can try one it get a useful opinion?

Second the Charge Duster, they look great & should be really nice to ride. Cotic Soul would be good as well. For a retro steel bike I would go for an old Orange P7 with the chrome finish & the original rigid forks.
