Had my Sepcialized Allez road bike for about 5 months and am enjoying the riding, commuting and have done a couple of triathlons. I have been thinking of upgrading my wheels but don't have a huge amount to spend, from reading other posts, am i going to notice any difference from my AlexRims S500 to a set of Fulcrum 7s or Shimano RS20 or am i better off saving up for better wheels/bike.

I'd say the latter. Ride the existing wheels into the ground while you save up for a pair of Ultegras or RS80s, or a complete bike.

Neither option, if you want to see the biggest improvement then buy some really decent tyres and put them onto your current rims.

Racing tyres are not cheap but will give you so much more with respect to performance usually both comfort and speed gains.

Have upgraded the tyres to schwalbe ultremo zx which has made a big improvrment to the standard ones that came with the bike, which is why i wondered if i would get the same improvement with thte wheels.

Nice tyres and glad to see you can feel the improvement but you won't see a huge improvement like that by changing the wheels to the ones you suggest.

I will now agree with keef66 save up for a more expensive bike, absolutely nothing wrong with your bike but you can guarantee when you have spent a lot more on a bike you will pedal harder and the speed will increase.

After all can you imagine the shame of having a super bling carbon framed bike and being overtaken by a mere mortal? Nah you will pedal hard and fast and believe it is the bike that is doing it.

Thanks for the replies guys, will save up for something a bit lighter and with a better groupset and then some wheels.

    Cheers Paul
