This is me on my commuter bike and my 100k route covers about 30 miles of bridleway - the beauty of a CX bike - see somewhere you want to cycle - go cycle

Ive seen a group of people ride some type of drop-bar bikes* down Old Road near the Whitehall centre in Derbyshire.
This is as far as google streetview got and the road gets a lot worse than this:
*I wasn't close enough to see if they were CX or tourers, or even road bikes but still...0 -
yes its my go pretty much anywhere bike, usually its towpaths and trails in all weathers but I've had it on unmade tracks up in the hills and those paths that evolve naturally in heathland
I've not tried the local MTB course yet, I worry about being quite a high centre of gravity and hunched over forward position on some of the steeper downhill bit & I've got to that age where falling off isn't as much fun as it used to be0 -
Errr... I ride my CX bike in CX races.
The most challenging CX races have tougher terrain than the least challenging XC MTB courses I race in the summer.
This is my fave CX course... (I'm in there at about 7:30 , if you know where to look!)

CX bikes are very robust and rarely break, apart from components getting clogged or other 'consumables' like chains. Your bike will be OK on stuff that will feel horrible to you, so long as you keep your pressures high to avoid pinch flats (~40-60). For racing pressures are usually lower.0 -

CX bikes are very robust and rarely break, apart from components getting clogged or other 'consumables' like chains. Your bike will be OK on stuff that will feel horrible to you, so long as you keep your pressures high to avoid pinch flats (~40-60). For racing pressures are usually lower.
In the first video I would have probably gone over the rougher bits if I was on my MTB rather than take the narrower smooth part. I note that some took that challenge.
The one thing that strikes me is that nearly everyone was smiling. Can't be right that :shock:0 -
Good replies all. Seems my problem might be more mind than bike. I was forced to ride my SCR along some rough muddy footpath the other day. As it turned out it didn't feel nearly as bad as I thought it would.
As soon as I started thinking of it as 'just another bike' rather than some kind of nervous gazelle that might spit me off at any moment, it all came together as quite a stable ride.
I'm not going to be taking it down any single track on it's 26mm slicks, but I reckon a CX bike is next on the list once my SCR needs replacing/relegating.Less internal organs, same supertwisted great taste.0 -
