    So that why doing 66.5 miles the other week from Southport to Manchester was so hard!

    I had a headwind for the whole journey! :(

    Manchester to Blackpool should be good then so long as the prevailing wind is from the south on the day (which it obviously wont be :x )

    The wind is never so bad that I would resort to the Turbo instead, only the dark and snow will keep me off.

    As my father used to say "Get oot there son, it'll put a chest on yer back"

    May 29th coming down a 18% gradient in Wester Ross and having to pedal to keep moving, now thats what I call wind!

    A friend's just directed me to this website, from which you can find averages for just about any period you like for any airport location. So I've found that Exeter since 1 April has had an average windspeed of 14km/h for the whole period, up from 12 km/h from the same period last year. Interesting.

    EDIT - have just tried other comparisons:

    1 January to 1 May
    2010 = 13km/h
    2011 = 13km/h

    1 May to 18 June:
    2010 = 11km/h
    2011 = 15km/h

    Woohoo! First ride on a relatively still day for ages, and I recorded a personal best (31 miles at 20.7mph with 1600ft of climbing, WW) ... so maybe all those rides in the incessant wind have paid off.

    But it looks like it might be back to the wind for the weekend. More MTFU training. But at least we might see the sun for a change.

    Good average that Brian!

    The way I see it is this.....

    You cannot control the weather, so you have two options.

    1) MTFU and get on with it
    2) Get annoyed everytime the conditions aren't perfect, and let the weather continually mind-f**k you.

    well said the man who comes from where it's flat and rarely rains :wink:
