i have slicks on my mountain bike as i use it exclusively on the road.
now if do a 40 mile + ride my body feels like it's gone through the wringer. aching all over especially shoulders and neck. are road bikes a whole lot more comfy over distance? tell me they are.

Every bike can be comfortable when set up properly.

Yes to the above, but...regardless of whatever bike you ride you may find that your position on the bike/bike set-up can change as the distances increase, or as the kind of riding changes. Probably not much help

I ride both and quite often do a route along an old railway line on mtb of 30 miles, and yes your right 30 on the mtb feels like 50 on the road bike.
