will a shorter stem enable me to drop my bars a tad? I only have one spacer under my stem and want to get rid of it, that's the reason why. It is mainly for aestethics

When you do anything for aesthetics its important to get a good sympathetic balance and not to compromise on your own self interest. Other peoples opinions should be irrelevant in your quest, you must do it for the inner self. Think Tracy Emin. :D:D:D

However if you train like a cart horse you'll race like one.

The length of the stem is irrelevant.

yeah, but will it be a trade. so by lowering my bars will shortening the distance to them cancel each over out

Try the shorter stem with the spacer above and below before taking a saw to the steerer
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..
