A week of bad luck...

In the space of the last 7 days...

(i) I've found a tear in the side wall of my rear tyre
(ii) My chain has snapped twice (as a result, I've now installed a new chain and cassette)

Was supposed to be doing the Great Kent Ride this morning with my club so I thought I'd take the bike out yesterday and give it and my legs a qucik 15 mile blast. It felt awful. The gears were changing by themselves, some funny noises, just didnt feel normal, so thought I'd head back and get the bike on the turbo and take a closer look, only to find....

(iiI) 2 broken spokes
(iv) one completely fcuked untrue wheel

No problem. After a quick FB status update, one of my club mates came to my rescue and dropped me off a spare wheel. Changed the cassette over and the tyre, job done.

Gave it a quick blast on the turbo and the gears were still jumping all over the place and I couldnt select the big sprocket on the back. After an hour of tinkering, it still wouldnt budge, despite following 2 tuturial videos on you tube.

(v) Dead on 11pm last night, my rear gear cable snapped.

So needless to say, I'm not doing the Great Kent Ride this morning. Now I need to learn how to install a new cable as well as getting my rear wheel rebuilt and I didnt get to have a pint last night as I'd wasted 4 hours of my life trying to get ready for today's ride.

P*ssed off would be an understatement.

Some of us cant afford to have 2 bikes. Its been hard enough finding the money to buy a new chain, cassette and tyre in the space of 1 week.

sorry to hear about your bad luck mate. Chin up though, atleast you had these problems on your local 15 mile run and not during the event. I think if it was me id be getting a new cable kit for peace of mind (and no more down time).

As for getting it to run and change well, it was probably down to your frayed cable/kinked outer that was the culprit. So youl soon be back out.

Ive got my first event next month, a charity ride, brum to oxford. Cant wait. I just need to get out and buy some spare tubes, multi tool and pump.
