Sram Force Jockey Wheel Noise
Hi. I have a sram force rear mech which insists on making a continuous noise. I have tracked it down to the jockey pulleys. I have discussed it with a few people and they are of the opinion that it is due to the fact that there is no end float on the pulley wheels which is normal for Sram. One or two people have suggested that the noise is quite normal and in fact some people quite like it. Not me , it drives me insane . I have campag , shimano and Sram X9 on a mountain bike and they are comparatively quiet. You can actualy see and feel the chain deflect as it rides between the pulleys.I must add that the groupset is fairly new but has had time to run in and everything is set up spot on. The gears change perfectly. I did see some mention of this problem in another topic on this forum but I can't find it now unfortunately. Has anyone else experienced this and more to the point has anyone cured it. I am thinking of modifying some pulleys.

Does this happen just on specific cogs? If so you might find that the RD needs slight adjustment. I've got the force groupset and the shifting is crisp and accurate with no noise from the RD. In order to set it up accurately I found that I needed to unscrew the RD tension bolt at the back of the RD by two turns before setting the cable tension. When I ran through the cassette I found that I got clicking of the RD on the fourtth biggest cog because the chain was catching on the derailleur pin on the third biggest cog. Winding the tension bolt back in slightly got rid of this leaving the RD shifting crisply and with no catching, clicking or noise.0

Hi. Yes it happens in all gears. The tension on the RD is quite high and at one stage I thought this might contribute to the problem but this was not the case . Thanks for your input.0

I suddenly have a squeaky Force RD as well....
Done about 1500 miles and its just started. Tried lub'ing it but only minor improvement and short term eg 1 ride. Just took them out, cleaned them as they were quite maky, and put a drop of a thin oil in, but they appear to be sealed bearings so shouldnt need any oil.
Will see if its fixed on tomorrows ride, but otherwise I'm tempted for an upgrade to a ceramic bearing Tacx set.Your Past is Not Your Potential...0 -
Hi. Just to let you know I sorted the problem. I fitted a new ultegra cassette and a KMC SL chain. I suppose it could have been a faulty set but several other people have had the same problem with road sets. ( Sram need to sort it ). I have Sram mountain bike sets working perfectly .
Bigpikle beware the ceramic fad. Ceramic bearings are not all they are cracked up to be. Some bike stores are finding quite an alarming wear rate in comparison to good quality steel.0
