Hi guys,
just had my first trip to the alps, it was amazing.
Nice roads, no pot holes, cars give you lots of room, and those hills were awesome.
We rode alpe d'heuz the galibier and many more.
Got back friday and rode this morning sat, roads s**t and cars giving you crap what is wrong with this country when it comes to cycling.

Yes, it makes a lot of sense to compare a national park type tourist area with no major industry to Bristol. Try going cycling in Mid Wales - hills aren't quite as epic, but you see a car once every 10 miles and the roads are in great condition because no-one uses them.

Different cultures and opposing attitudes towards cyclists to a certain extent. You're comparing eggs with eggs though. Try cycling in the urban industrial parts of France and then report back.

Having cycled to Paris from the UK I would say on the whole the French roads were better. We hit potholes on both sides of the channel and on average we were given more respect by drivers in France than the UK. Whether this is down to culture or population density I do not know. France is 3 times the size of the UK with near enough the same population.
