Another CTW Thread...

Folks,

CTW is coming up Monday and I've been toying with the idea of picking up an entry level road bike. Looking on Evans my choices are from the following (I have quite a short list):

Specialized Allez 16
Specialized Allez 24
Specialized Secteur (I like the idea of a slightly more relaxed riding position).
GT GTR Series 5
Trek 1.1 Compact
Boardman Road Race

I've no idea if it's better to go for a better frame with a lesser groupset or vice versa. If I'm honest I'm unlikely to upgrade the components.

The bike is going to be used for a commute along country roads, with the intention of me pushing out further on the weekends. I've ridden an MTB for years, this will be my first 'serious' road bike.

So basically I guess I'm asking what would be the best all-rounder package for a total beginner to road?

    you do know that people are going to recommend there own bikes don't you?
    go and try as many as you can,I have tried some of the above and I've ordered a Specialized Secteur because it's the best bike out of the ones I tried for "me".I can tell you the best for "me" not the best for "you".If you can't ride them at least sit on them and get the one that fits best-good luck :D

    I think most people would hit the button marked "They are all good bikes so test ride them all and pick the one that feels right".
