I've just received a replacement Garmin 800. Before I sent the old one back to Garmin, I took a copy of the entire Garmin folder as a backup. Can I restore my totals? What about my old ride data. Should I copy that back into the new Garmin folder or is it just best to leave old as old and start afresh? Thanks

go fresh mate... out of interest what happened to your garmin? was it battery based as my battery seems to be depleting rather quickly lately.

It was a cracked screen. I've no idea how/when it happened. It's never been dropped, or kept in a bag or anywhere else with other heavy or sharp items. I was out riding and it just looked like a hair on the screen but when I tried to wipe it, I realised it was a crack. I know from reading the Garmin forums that a lot of people with early 800 models have had probs with cracked screens (mine was an early serial number too). I contacted Garmin and admit I was sceptical about what they would say/do as I had no explanation for how it had happened. However, I sent it back and today, a new 800 arrived, replaced under warranty. I am VERY impressed with the Garmin customer service. I got a whole new bundle, including HRM and cadence sensor (they told me to only send the head unit), so that's a bonus. I have been having probs with the HRM anyway so am pleased I get to try a replacement.

well for the price of those things, they really couldnt refused to replace it. glad it went well. most likely it was the vibrations from the road that caused a crack in the screen ( the material used for the screen cover was probably too weak in the earlier versions ) .

absolute result on the freebies. sell the cadence and recover some of the over price cash you spent on it lol :D
  • I have an 800 myself which is excellent however i'am praying it never goes wrong as with other Garmin products i've found their customer services truly appalling.

You can copy the data in the Activies, Totals and Courses folders back in from your archive. Worked for me after I did a factory reset.
