I,m considering going to a dual ring from a triple. I was thinking about removing outer ring and repacing my 32t middle ring with a 36t ring.
The rear mech is a 9 speed shimano xt cassette the front chainring is shimano deore.
Would there be a problem replacing the middle ring with another shimano 36t ring?

    Nope 8)
So long as it's 4 bolt you'll be reet 8) Any Shimano 36T will fit. You'll just have to adjust your front mech.

Is it ok to carry on using the front mech. I am also considering a bash guard

Yes you just have to adjust it so it won't go far enough to throw the chain off 8)
Bash would be a god investment also.

Does it matter if the largest ring is 36t but the bash guard is 40t size?

Also is it ok to have a 36t next to a 22t ring?

Sorry but not very tech minded when it comes to bikes.

I have a 22T/36T set up.It's pretty much standard for a D&B.40T bash will be fine, not a lot of difference all it's doing is protecting the chain etc.Make sure you get an E-Thirteen supercharger as I have an SLX which is a bit fragile. Also a chain guide like a Blackspire stinger is a good addition if you have ISCG tabs on your frame.

I have the shimano deore hollowtech fitted. See link. Concerned that the pedal arm will not fit onto smaller ring

If you remove the big ring you'll need shorter bolts.Bash rings come with bolts. The Pedal arms are the same as LX/SLX/XT/XTR you'll have no problem.
I've got a Deore on a HT I'm building and I'm removing the outer ring and replacing it with a bash.

Correct me if i'm wrong. If my chain is fine running on my middle ring which is a 32 t then surely it will be fine if the 32t ring is changed to a 36t
